## What it does

ChatCut's first-party server drives its web video editor: an agent lists and creates projects, imports media, edits items on a real timeline, works from the transcript, edits captions and submits exports, while the bundled skills cover motion graphics, music, image generation, avatars and multicam sync. The point for a filmmaker-agent is that the result stays an editable project a human can open and trim, not a flattened render — the plugin's own rules forbid pre-compositing in ffmpeg as the deliverable.

## Field notes

Verified 2026-10-26 against the vendor's plugin repo and docs; we have no account, so no live tools/list — the tool names above come from the plugin's basics skill, not the server. The endpoint and OAuth resource are taken from claude/.claude-plugin/plugin.json (plugin v1.10.23). The intended route is the Claude Code plugin, which also sends ChatCut client headers and loads the skills; a bare claude mcp add against the URL is untested by us. The repo (ChatCut-Inc/agent-plugin, created June 2026, ~980 stars, pushed 26 Oct 2026) is GPL-3.0 per the manifests but carries no LICENSE file, and it holds only the plugin and skills — the server itself is closed. Known friction from the vendor's own docs: tools load only at session start, so open a new session after install or update, and the plugin does not update itself; exports render in a signed-in browser tab that must stay open, cloud video tops out at 1080p, local-only files need a supported import path, and installing ChatCut Desktop on the same machine disables the plugin. Money: free tier caps web export at 60 minutes total; paid plans run $38 to $141 a month (annual) for 200 to 800 credits, and only paid tiers list 'all AI agent editing capabilities' — which agent features work on the free plan is not spelled out. One caution: the vendor's install doc is written as instructions for agents, including proxy-hunting advice; read it before letting an agent run it. Not to be confused with OpenChatCut, an unrelated open-source project.
