## What it does

Descript's first-party remote MCP server hands an agent the transcript-based editor: import media from a URL or local file with automatic transcription, then drive Underlord to strip filler words, apply Studio Sound, generate captions, build scenes and highlight reels, or create a whole project from a prompt. It also finds and organizes projects and compositions and publishes to a shareable Descript link. The natural home for interview, doc and podcast-adjacent cutting, where the edit is really a text edit.

## Field notes

Official and hosted, so nothing to install, but the export story is the catch: Descript documents no direct media-file export over MCP — an agent can publish to a Descript web link or hand off a signed URL, and anything else you fetch by exporting from the app yourself. Other documented limits: YouTube URLs cannot be imported, job history is kept 30 days, and one connection sees exactly one drive (switching drives means re-authenticating, and editing a project on another drive errors). API and MCP access is included for paying subscribers at no extra cost but every import and Underlord edit burns your plan's media minutes and AI credits. Descript points Claude users at the connector directory and gives the raw URL above for custom clients; tool names are not published, so this entry lists capabilities rather than inventing them.
