# Silhouette MCP Server

> The only roto, paint, and planar-tracking MCP — Boris FX Silhouette driven by an agent.

- **Category:** 3D, Worlds & VFX
- **Vendor:** Boris FX (official)
- **Pricing:** paid
- **Verified:** 2026-08-11

## What it does

Ships inside Silhouette 2026 and exposes the fx Python API to MCP clients: inspect projects and sessions, walk and build node graphs, apply Roto/Paint/Composite/Matte Assist ML templates, create and keyframe bezier and oval shapes, and render frames back into the conversation. It is the first MCP into the roto and paint end of post, where the manual hours actually live. Silhouette's Preferences > MCP page writes the client config for you.

## Connect

- Claude Code: `claude mcp add silhouette -- <silhouette-python> -m sfx_mcp`
- Local: `<silhouette-python> -m sfx_mcp`

**Auth:** local-app — Requires a licensed Silhouette 2026 install; online mode also requires Silhouette to be running

## Field notes

Shipped with Silhouette 2026 on May 28 2026. Two modes via SFX_MCP_MODE: 'online' (default) drives a running instance over its RPC socket with live UI updates and grouped undo blocks; 'offline' runs Silhouette headless per tool call for batch, CI, and farm work — Configure Client always writes online, so offline needs a hand edit. execute_script is an unguarded escape hatch that runs arbitrary fx Python. Not cheap and not standalone-free: Silhouette is $545/yr or $103/mo, included in the Boris FX Suite, and runs as a standalone app or a plugin inside After Effects, Premiere, Nuke, Resolve/Fusion, and Flame. Closed source — no repo to audit.
